Agriculture productivity and livestock health are significantly influenced by factors such as ammonia levels, methane emissions, temperature, humidity, and soil moisture. Traditional sensing solutions often lack precision, durability, or affordability for widespread deployment, particularly in rural and underserved areas. This VIPR team will address these challenges by developing smart, affordable, and customizable sensors. The sensors will facilitate real-time monitoring, enabling farmers to respond swiftly to changing conditions, thus improving agricultural practices, reducing environmental impacts (e.g., emissions of ammonia and methane), and enhancing animal welfare. Furthermore, this approach supports sustainability by incorporating biodegradable or recyclable materials, minimizing waste, and enabling scalable deployment of sensor networks.
