This project will develop MEMS sensor networks to monitor transportation networks for the safety of both transportation infrastructure and traffic. Issues involved: 1) How to develop low-cost but reliable sensor networks to monitor the safety of both transportation infrastructures and traffic?, 2) How to deploy the sensors in the field with minimum perturbations to existing infrastructure and traffic flows?, and 3) How to use AI to come up with the information for recognizing the safety issues?
